BJHA Ltd: About Us

Background and Governance of Birmingham Jewish Housing Association Ltd

The Birmingham Jewish Housing Association Ltd (BJHA) was founded in 1946 to meet the housing needs of the Jewish community in Birmingham. Built on principles of compassion, inclusion, and service, BJHA has grown into a trusted provider of secure, affordable, and high-quality accommodation for individuals and families for nearly eight decades.

While originally established to support the specific cultural, religious, and social needs of the local Jewish community, BJHA has always maintained a spirit of openness and diversity. Today, the Association provides housing and support services to individuals of all backgrounds, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment for all residents.

BJHA creates a setting where residents can maintain independence while benefiting from thoughtful amenities and community support. With features such as proximity to places of worship, culturally sensitive care, and the option to observe kosher practices, the Association’s ethos is rooted in Jewish tradition but designed to enhance the wellbeing of a broad, diverse population.

The organisation is independently governed by a dedicated Board of Management, which provides strategic leadership and oversees BJHA’s operations. The Board comprises professionals with a wide range of experience, ensuring effective oversight and sustainable development. Day-to-day operations are managed by a committed team of housing professionals and supported by contracted maintenance partners from across the housing sector. This structure ensures high standards, strong accountability, and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Enhanced Living through Exceptional Services

Beyond housing, BJHA distinguishes itself by offering a wide range of services and community-based activities that enhance residents’ daily lives and promote wellbeing. These include:

  • On-site Café and Cooked Meals: Residents enjoy access to freshly prepared, nutritious meals in a warm, communal setting, supporting both physical health and social interaction.

  • Wellbeing and Recreational Activities: A regular schedule of soft exercise classes, arts and crafts sessions, games, and special interest groups encourage active lifestyles and meaningful engagement.

  • Coffee Mornings and Social Events: Weekly gatherings foster connection among residents and contribute to a vibrant, friendly community atmosphere.

  • Charity Campaigns and Fundraisers: BJHA supports a culture of giving back, encouraging residents to participate in local charitable initiatives that build solidarity and purpose.

  • Organised Outings: Regular day trips and excursions provide opportunities for leisure, exploration, and fun beyond the residential setting.

These services reflect BJHA’s commitment not only to excellent housing but also to creating a holistic living experience that supports health, connection, and joy.
